Default River Rafting

I've always thought it would be fun to go river rafting. Has anyone ever done it? Is it as much fun as it looks like it is? What safety equipment do you need?

Years ago. Me and a girlfriend went rafting down a river that went through our hometown. We had a blast. Just make sure you don't get too close to the banks.

What about rafting after a rain in a creek that is higher and flowing faster than normal? What safety procedures should you take or should you do it at all?

I suggest using an outfitter. They'll supply you with the correct gear, an experienced and trained guide and instructions for a great day....

If you lack the ability to read water and have poor skills, this is a very bad ideal. I would suggest not doing it. One of the problems with these conditions is the fact that they can create "strainers". Strainers are trees in the rivers...water goes through, but traps everything else. In effect, strainers are drowning machines...

Don't do it without an expert guide who knows the river like the back of his hand. The guide would know what equipment you need and when it is not safe to go.
