Default travel partner/groups?

I'm wondering if there's a reliable web-site that helps you to find other interested travel partners .. or, perhaps, groups .. for a certain destination? .. something safe .. I'm not talking about couch-surfing and web-sites that "hook" you up with someone ..

That would be a nice feature, I have seen hiking singles, but that doesn't do me any good. It is nice to head off with just my daughter and I sometimes.

I use meetup.com, it is a free site where you can find people that are interested in the same things as you are in your area. If you can't find a group to join you can create one (fee required) and hopefully other people will join you in your travels.

This is interesting but I'm not considering this as my option to find a partner when I hike. I'd rather have a friend on mine who would accompany me on my hike than have a stranger go with me.
