Default Cooking in a coffee can

I was reading that an easy way of cooking on a campfire is to layer ingredients in a coffee can and placing the can over the coals. I thought that was very unique. Has anyone ever tried this before?

Oh yes! I've done it ... it works great. I used mine over a small stove, but worked a charm. I mostly used it to boil river water to kill of any possible bacteria, but I also used it to make a rice-and-bean dish.

Rice and beans in coffee can...hmmm. Now I want to try this at home just for the heck of it, lol. I love innovative cooking and I'd like to see what else I can come up with to cook with this method.

I have never tried cooking in a coffee can. Thanks for sharing this tip! I'm going to try this at home before executing it over the camp fire.

I haven't tried this either but I am definitely interested in learning more. What other things can you cook this way? Do you have any recipes to share? This would be a good way to re-use my coffee cans so I really like this tip.

Rice and beans is about the only thing I've made in a coffee can. It's so easy, I find myself cooking that at least once each time out. The ingredients are so cheap, each meal is about 30 cents.

I have never tried cooking in a coffee can but I certainly have enough of them lying around that I could use for this. I think I will give it a try next time we fire the grill up for the heck of it!
