I like my hot dogs a little on the blackened side but as for other meats I don't really like them charred. You are right enjoytheclimb there is nothing better than food cooked on an open flame.
I don`t mind hot dogs or hamburgers a little charred. I have never cooked any other kind of meat at camp. I can just imagine what a steak cooked over an open campfire would taste like. Mmmm, lol just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
I do not like ANY burnt taste on any of my food. I'm a lightly browned type of girl. My daughter loves her meat charred! I hate it! It is hard to grill out for both of us and please us both.

We eat a lot of things that causes diseases so why exclude charred meat?
I also like my meat to be a bit charred. I want my meat to be slowly cooked through an open fire but I can't wait to gobble up the meat when the smell the meat being cooked.
