Default Do you try out recipes at home first?

We have campfires often at our house. We live in the country and it's easy to have a big campfire out back. A lot of times we will try out new recipes on the campfire before actually going camping and doing them.

Anyone else do this?

This is a great idea! I haven't ever done this, but from now on we probably will. We always have campfires at home too.
There is nothing worse than thinking you are going to have a great meal and it is a huge flop!

I always experiment new camping recipes beforehand when a camping trip is a few days away. Good meal preparation is the key to enjoy the camping session especially when eating.

Myself? Well, it is hard to cook anything in my home. See what happens is I start to make something, then the wife starts asking what I am doing in the kitchen. That usually leads to her yelling at me because I'm not following the recipe exactly, since I tend to experiment and use a recipe as a guide or jumping off point. The next thing I know is I'm getting kicked out of the kitchen, and she is cooking it.

But some of the "campfire" meals are good, and I love to eat them at home.

Now that was just too funny. To be honest I love it when hubby steps in and helps out. Better yet when he makes the whole meal!
I'm not one to follow the recipe either, I love to change things up.

That is pretty funny Jason! I usually tend to try stuff at home first just in case it doesn't work out. If it's something we end up not liking I don't want to be hauling around extra stuff!
