Default Ever forget your grill?

So anyone ever forget their grill or grate used for holding pots and pans? Here is a neat little trick. Take two fresh and thick logs and place them on the ground in your campfire spot. Place them so they form a V. From there make the fire between the logs. Now you can put the pots and pans on the logs to cook over the fire. The small pots and pans can go closer to the bottom of the V while the larger ones can sit closer towards the top.

I've never forgotten mine thankfully! What a great idea though. A lot of times it seems we have run out of room and this would work wonderful. I bet by the end of the week our logs would be burnt right down!

Great idea Jason! We never forget to bring our camping grill with us but this time we should try using logs to hold pots and pans over the fire.

I've not forgotten to date but its good to know that you can get around it if you do. I would think that forgetting your pots and having nothing to cook in would be harder to get around.

I don't usually bring a grill when I am camping. I cook everything over the fire. I have used the method above to hold any pans. I also like wrapping my food in foil and putting it directly in the hot ambers.

Logs in a V-shaped is a neat way to hold the pans over the fire. I have another method to hold the pans. I use three big rocks to hold the pans. The problem with this is that sometimes the pan slips when one rock will be moved.

I used to love cooking over the firebut age has caught up with me and the work to get enough firewood to cook 2 meals a day plus campfire at night just isn't worth it to me. I gather enought wood for night time fires and cook on my Coleman stove. I will still cook burgers and hot dogs ove a fire though.

We have actually forgotten our grill...only once though...not the kind of thing you do twice! That's a great idea about using the logs for cooking though.

That is a great idea. I had to read that twice to make sure that we have to use fresh logs, not just any log for the purpose.

I've used the V that Jason mentioned and I also place the logs parallel with each other at times. I like to flatten both the bottom and top of the logs so they don't tend to roll and I have a nice flat surface to set pots and pans on.
