Default Fire pit

Has anyone done this before? We are going to end up redoing some of our backyard next summer and I am thinking I want a fire pit for the times we can not get away, but still want a campfire feel at home.

I helped my friend make his. Very basic though, we pretty much dug a hole and put some fire bricks around the edges.

That's exactly what I did at my last place. I was renting, too

I saved all the dirt and grass. I had the pit for about 4 months. When I moved, I filled it in about 2 weeks before. Re-covered it with the dead grass clods. A couple hard rains and you couldn't even tell!

It was awesome being able to have a fire in the back yard.

I say go for it.

Lol, 2coastcamper - "Re-covered it with the dead grass clods."

I live in the country on a few acres so we have a bonfire area on our property. I wouldn't necessarily cook out there, but it's nice to get a big fire going once in awhile...especially in the fall when it's chilly.

We haven't tried making a fire pit in our backyard but we will dig on the ground for the pit when the weather is cold. It's a good idea, we can roast some foods on a stick over the fire pit if we're in picnic mood.

Drake, if you dig it now, it'll be easier. If it gets too cold, the ground/earth will be harder. I don't know if where you live it gets below freezing for long periods of time. Just a thought.

We have a fire pit on our property. We just dug up a circle and put some cement blocks around it. It is very easy, nothing fancy.

My kids love to be able to have friends over and hang out by the fire.
