Default Starting the campfire

Would you be able to start a fire with just twigs and matches? We always have a hard time starting our campfire without papers to burn. What is the secret to starting a fire?

before you use your twigs (which are kindling), you need some tinder. Good tinder can be things like the paper you mentioned. Dead and dry grass, shavings from the inside of certain barks, certain types of moss.

If you're trying to start a fire with just twigs and matches, you're skipping an important step -- the tinder.

We have started our campfire with just twigs and matches. Of course you need to have other really dry wood to put on the fire once it takes off. Most times we use newspaper along with the kindling wood.
