Default Emergency Food

I know it's not much of a recipe but do you use emergency food high protein bars and such. Do you stash cases in case of emergency conditions?

Beside standard protein bars for the road I keep a pack or two of Quake Kare Emergency Food rations that can satisfy daily needs for one adult person. Comes in handy, but it's not exactly delicious.

We keep jerky and power bars in the vehicles and we have some at home. We are planning to get a couple of cases of MRE's and the 2500 calories food bars as well. GPER I would love to know how to make my own jerky if you care to share!

The beef I use is whatever that is on sale and very lean. Some people cut the meat along the grain, I cut mine across the grain it crumbles easier that way.

I use one cup soy sauce, one cup worcestershire sauce and one cup water. I'll use some onion salt, pepper and what ever flavors you like. I marinate for at least a couple of hours and rotate the meat in the marinade. Then on the dehydrator it goes and then I get in trouble with my wife for stinking up the house. She gets over it.

I'm thinking about trying my smoker on some to see how it turns out.

I have a variety of things that we carry as emergency food and we rotate them regularly so that nothing goes bad. We wouldn't leave home without them because I think it is a risk.

I don't go to too many remote places just campgrounds and stuff like that so no I don't carry emergency food. If I was going to go hiking somewhere I didn't know good I would definitely take some though.

Thanks GPER I am going to have to give that a try. We have been trying some different ways to dehydrate food in case we are ever in a situation and need to do it but have no electricity.

We have quite a bit of food in the house but if we had to pack up and leave with food it would be a problem. We have some peanut butter and crackers and a few protein bars and packaged cookies but it would be slim. We always have peanut butter and crackers around though.

I only keep emergency food on hand during hurricane season, but from June to November I am stocked up on canned foods that we can eat cold. The protein bars are a good idea that I will look into for this year. I do like to stock up before we get a storm because there is nothing worse than battling the lines at the grocery store three days before a hurricane.
