Default Does anyone use a teardrop camper?

I have thought of getting one from time to time. I like the idea of the outside kitchen as we cook over the fire most of the time anyway. But I am not crazy about the limited inside space to hide in if it rains.

I heard they are nice. I've seen a few shows about them and think they are neat. You can do a lot with them, and cost a lot less then a full rv.

I had to sell my class c in 2006, and I really miss it. I have an old pop up frame behind my shop and plan on building a teardrop on it this winter.

May I be stupid for a minute and ask what a teardrop camper is? I have never heard of one. We used to have an old one that fit on the back of out 74 truck and then we got a pop up which got mauled by a bear last year.

I've seen them but I haven't used one. We have a little pop up that we use when we are camping but it doesn't have a whole lot in it except beds and a fridge. We don't even have a place to cook unless you count the campfire.

Some good info on tear drops
Teardrops & Tiny Travel Trailers :: View Forum - Teardrop Construction Tips & Techniques
I was going to build on then I got my Polaris Ranger so I couldn't pull both. So I built a trailer for the Ranger, but I have still been thinking about putting the two together.

I have been completely intrigued with the teardrop! I was looking into building one myself when my Grand Vitara broke down. I need to get it fixed first!!. I drive a Yaris now & it is too small unless I built a motorcycle size teardrop LOL!!! Now THAT would be funny to see going down the road or backing into a camp spot :-D ... Naw, I would really want the GVs 6 cylinder & 4wd if needed for camping traveling & exploring around! I've been packing the Yaris with gear this summer so the GV & a TD would seem BIG now tee hee!! Check them out. I love the "galley" hatch in back & the sleeping bed & cabinets up front. I could just keep my dutch ovens in there & my gear. Awesome!

Default a different kind of trailer

I thought about pop-ups and teardrops, but I LIKE to sleep under the stars or in a tent.
But I still needed a way to haul my gear and wanted more convenience, so I built this:
UCK! --the "Ultimate Camp Kitchen" (click on UCK! to view)

it has lots of room, a built in kitchen with triple burner stove and double tub sink, thirty gallons of water storage with an electric pump to the sink faucet, two "six-day" 82quart coolers, and even has room for a portable toilet.

I'll build more if anyone wants one....

I use to be able to sleep on a pile of rocks! Not any more since I got past 60 and am almost at the half way point to 70. You know, social security age! Gotta have some creature comforts, especially with wife in tow! We scratched around a bit, trying out tent campers (popups, a-frames), Trailers (5th wheels, tow behinds, etc), class C motor homes and Class A's which are too much like driving a Grayhound bus and really tick off the 16 wheeler crowd. Recently settled for a Class C that is 31 feet long, has 2 slideouts, a Ford chassis and a V-10 engine that sucks down gas as if it were dying of thirst. That's OK since we mostly use it within our home state of Montana to take short trips to local (within a hundred mile radius, usually) campgrounds and Glacier and or Yellowstone parks. We haul our dogs, 2 Weimaraners, and our disabled daughter who fer sure can't sleep in a cot or on the ground. It had some "bugs" when we first got it, but have most of em worked out and just recently winterized it until the snow melts and it gets a mite bit warmer, say about late April or May. Being retired after 50 years of working can be a tad bothersome, but getting up whenever I want to and not havin to worry about punchin a clock or the boss feels good.

The teardrop camper might be pretty neat for a young person or a couple, but I wouldn't want one for my husband and I. At 60, you just kind of enjoy the comforts of home and that's why we travel in a motorhome. We get the pleasure of the great outdoors while sleeping in our own bed at night.
