Default How did you decide how big?

My husband and I are talking about getting a trailer or an RV. We are just starting to look into it and are amazed at the choices. We are leaning towards an RV because we'd like to use it for longer trips across the country. What are some things to keep a look out for when buying an RV?

I'll admit that I don't know much about RVs, but the one thing I would keep in mind (in reference to size) is the limitations of the places you are likely to take it quite often. In some of my travels, I've seen several signs that do not allow vehicles longer than 17 feet on some roads. So, 17 feet seems to be some sort of cutoff. My grandparents have a 24-footer I think. But they just stick to nice, long, flat southern highways and paved RV parks. If you're going to be taking your RV into more "rugged" areas, you might want to find one that's maneuverable.

To buy an RV for a start, you need to check thoroughly for RV exteriors and interiors. Check for the awning, roof, bathroom - toilet, vents, medicine cabinet, battery condition, carpet and flooring, furnace, air condition, holding tanks, kitchen table, chair and sofa. Other things to check for are doors, curtains, mattresses, lighting, latches, manuals for RV, microwaves, refrigerator, phone, propane (gas), rear ladder, walls, ceiling, television, oven and stove, tires, water heater and windows. Look for soft spots in them if you're buying a used RV.
