Default When do you just trash it?

Two summers ago my son, who was 14 at the time, bought a miniwinnie RV. It was junky, but did pass inspection. He has been waiting and waiting to get his liscense so he can go camping with his friends.

The past two summers, we have driven the RV for him to a close campground and he has camped there with us next to him in our trailer.

He gets his liscense in January. We took the RV to get inspected for him and it won't pass He is so upset.

The RV cost him $900. How much would you put into it before just trashing it? We are still waiting for a quote, but the list seemed very long of things wrong!

Any advice?

Oh no! That stinks for him. He bought it with his own money? And now it won't pass inspection. I would let him put whatever money he wants into it. I'm guessing he has a job right?
Are there things that you could fix with him instead of some dealer?

Honestly I am not sure my 14 year old would have one without some help first, did the child have a job to help pay for that 900? And depending on the cost and what exactly is needed would better help, not sure I could say yes or no right now.

If a 14-year-old saved up $900 for a camper, only to have it crap out just before he gets to use it, that's quite a shame. I'd say, if you can afford it, spend some money to have it fixed. It sounds like he could use -- and deserves -- a reward. I'd even go so far as to match the $900 he already put into it. If the repair cost will be more than that, however, I think it would be a good time to talk about other options. As in, selling it as a junker and looking at another low-cost used RV.

We are still waiting for the estimate to get it fixed.
Yes, he has a job and saved up to pay for it. He has been paying for the insurance on it too.

Someone offered him $100 for it and he said it is worth the $100 to keep it here in the yard and sleep in it over the summer.
