Lightbulb Sun burns, Sun stroke and heat stroke

During summer campings, we try to avoid sun burns by using sunscreen. How about sun stroke and heat stroke? How do you avoid them?

Hydrate...you would be amazed at what our bodies can do in the nastiest heat as long as you KEEP HYDRATED!!! The recommended intake is 1 quart per hour in very hot temperatures. Just be sure that your not flushing out all of your electrolytes. Make sure you have adequate food intake with lots of sodium (you can just add salt to your water). If you drink so much that your urine is crystal clear then you are at risk of over hydrating, which can kill you also.

Our daughter in law had an episode of heat exhaustion and now has problems every time she gets really hot. She gets confused, lethargic to the point of having to sleep no matter what we do and gets red as a beet. We try to tell her to drink but she is so stubborn, she WILL NOT do what she doesn't want to do. We have finally just gotten to the point that we leave her alone unless she passes out and then we either carry her or call the rangers. She exasperates me to no end!

As said stay hydrated if you stop sweating you need to find shade and start sipping water to get cooled down.

You drink plenty of water and try to stay out of the direct sun during the hottest times. We swim a lot when it's super hot out. I also make sure the kids are drinking water throughout the day and not sugary drinks.

Drink water before you are thirsty, also a wide brimmed straw hat can help keep you in the shade.
