Do you use fiberglass or aluminum poles?

What's your preference? I know aluminum tent poles are more expensive but you get what you pay for. They are not as easily damaged as fiberglass and for the frequent camper, a good investment.

I have only used fiberglass and have no complaints. Before that it was the old big aluminum poles associated with larger tents.

I used to use fiberglass because that always just happened to be the poles that came with the tents I bought. My new tent, however, has aluminum poles. But that didn't weigh heavily in my decision. I never once had a problem with fiberglass poles ... and I've done a lot of camping. I've heard they can be come brittle in cold weather ... but I've camped in the snow, and nothing. The aluminum poles are much lighter, and will probably make a difference when I hike in. But I don't think the poles should be the main focus of a tent search. Pick the tent that's going to meet your needs, and just use the poles that come with the tent.
