Default I think our boat is done for

We haven`t had our boat in the water now for about 1 1/2 years. It needs a new steering cable. My husband hasn`t started the motor either. Can this make the motor freeze up? It`s also starting to look pretty weather worn. We don`t have a garage to put it in.

I don't know a tremendous amount about boats but maybe you could get one of those thick weighted tarps that you fine in the autos section at Walmart or Target?

It sounds like it needs a major overhaul! Yes, if the engine hasn't been started it can seize up if you don't change oil and grease things up good first. As far as the weather damage, a good scrape and repaint can take care of that but all in all, it sounds like your boat needs some work.

If it hasn't been started for over a year, you might not be able to get it going. I would take it in for a tune up. Then make sure to buy a cover for it when it is out in the weather. You can get a cover for pretty cheap if you search. We just bought one at Walmart for our boat and it was less than $100.

$100 for a tarp sounds like a reasonable investment to make in order to keep the boat in good shape. I would rather spend the $100 on a tarp than buy a new boat, lol. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it would seem to me that a boat motor that hasn't been started in a year and a half would have similar problems to a car that hasn't been started for a long time.

I know you see those commercials that say you can pour this mixture into your gas lines and motor etc and it will keep your boat ready for action for years. I wonder if it is true? Did you guys do any storage techniques to prevent damage?

We did have a tent type cover over it. But we had a huge wind pop up and blew the thing right onto our roof. It broke the poles. I had to get a cat out of the boat the other day and boy did it stink in the cabin. We have had a lot of people stopping by asking if we want to sell it. By the looks of it, and knowing the motor may not start, we probably won`t get much for it. It`s a shame because it was a nice boat at one time.
