Default Pets on the Boat?

Does anyone here bring their dogs on the boat with them when they go out? I've tried bringing mine, but she isn't to keen on getting into the boat when it's in the water - everything about being out on the ocean seems to freak her out. I guess it's too late and I should have taken her out from when she was a pup. For those that do take their dogs out; is that what you had to do?

I had a guy bring a hound dog once and think he was going to flop him up in our boat. When I told him no animals he got pretty frustrated but I don't think its a good thing, putting a hyper dog on a boat.

I knew someone who used to bring their dog out on their pontoon type boat, but they had been bringing the dog out there with them since she was a puppy and it was on a relatively calm lake. They suited her up in a little doggy life jacket and away they went.

If you don't train them from when they are young, it's pretty much a wasted effort. It also can be dangerous for them to be on the boat, they can easily flip it if they flop around a lot. My father used to have an old hound dog that he took out fishing with him all the time but he started the dog out when it was just 8 or 9 weeks old. His name was Ol' Smokey and he loved to go fishing. He would bark at the fish when Dad caught one.

I knew a family that would bring their small dog on their yacht with them all the time - but at that point, I don't know how much "fear factor" of being out on the ocean there is in the dog!

We have never even thought of taking our dog on the boat. He`s crazy enough in the truck. lol. He likes water so he would probably jump out or tip the boat over. He weighs 65 lbs.

Too bad our dog is extremely scared of water so bringing her on the family boat is a no-no. She hates it more every time I give her a warm bath in the bath tub but she has no choice. We still love her even if she has her own dislikes.

When I was growing up, we always took our German Shepherd, Trixie, out in the boat with us. If we didn't, she would follow us swimming and my dad was afraid she would drown when we went a long ways. Of course, she was raised in the boat, practically, and knew how to behave.
