I've met people who live on their boat and have done so for years. They travel from place to place, usually living off of some fortune for an extended period. Sounds nice...but it can only last for so long, right?

Must be nice! I don't think I could ever live on a boat for an extended period - I love land too much! I have stayed two nights on a boat for a trip with a friend's family; it was a luxurious yacht and hardly felt like a boat at all, really.
My great grandparents used to have a house boat in the Keys. We used to go and visit them once or twice a month and would stay for the weekend. I did not see how they could live on it, it was pretty tiny but they were really happy there.
I guess if they were happy, then why not? I myself couldn't do it - I guess it's another case of "to each their own;" or better yet, "whatever floats your boat!"
I presume that eventually you will get used to that type of lifestyle and it becomes normal. I have only been on a boat/ship for a day maximum, never longer. I know for sure that I would not be able to spend my whole life on one!
