Default How deep can you dive on a single breath?

I've been free diving for years and recently I took a class on how to conserve your breath underwater at the local University. (That wasn't the actual name of the class, but it did focus mainly on free diving)

At first I didn't believe they could teach me any thing I didn't know but after finishing the class I tried out the techniques I learned and they worked.

I used to be able to go to 35 feet comfortably and 40 feet on a good day, but I'd have to come right back up. Now I can get to 40 feet with no problem, I think I could possibly go to 45 or maybe even 50 feet.

I admire you for free diving. I can't do it, I used to snorkel but I stayed pretty close to the surface. I don't even do that now though. I prefer dry land most of the time.

8 feet (I'm afraid of drowning and water in general)

I can do about 35 - 40 feet. I hunt lobsters and the areas I go to are that deep so I don't really need to go deeper than that.

That class you took sounds interesting Wild Bill, I think I would like to try something like that. Where did you say you took the class again?

I took the class a while back at the University of the Virgin Islands. I have a friend who works there and he told me about if because he knows how much I like free diving.

The class was offered during the summer, or at least I think it was during the summer, the weather is always the same down there.

I don't know. I haven't ever really tried to hold my breath and dive.

Don't you get scarred that something might get you or that you won't make it up in time from going so deep?

By the way, how do you get so deep? Do you jump off of a cliff or use rocks to weigh you down?

I'll admit, I was afraid the first time I did it as a boy, but after a while you learn to deal with it. I won't say I'm not afraid, I think of it as having respect for my environment.

As for diving, I will it is easier if you have fins, but you dive by putting your head down underwater and kick. Keep kicking and the force from your feet pushes you under. If you want to come up, stop kicking and you will float to the surface.

I do not free dive, but envy anybody who can. I would love to be under the sea with all the beautiful fish. It scares my pants off of me though. I would be afraid I wouldn't be able to get back up.

Actually I wouldn't worry about that. The hard part is going down. If you just relax you will just float to the top.
