I remember when I was a kid we would have dive contests on the beach. We would go out just deep enough that the water was up to our waist and dive underwater and swim along the shoreline and see who could go the furthest.
Later on when we got older, we would actually go out and dive in about 15 -17 feet of water. At that point it would be a race to see who could pick up this big key chain we found.

I learned to dive in high school. I am not really confident in my swimming skills and in high school when I took my test, they put me in the deep end. I hated it! Anyways, this is when I had to dive in order to pass the class.
