Cellphones don't always work in the wild, but I think it important to keep one on you. Maybe a GPS would be good too, but man are they expensive!

I always bring my cellphone, like most others, just in case. I really don't like not being able to hear my surroundings when I'm out on a trail, so I leave my Mp3 at home.

Cellphone is a must for me because I never know when emergency occurs even how careful we are. Other electronics like laptops, game consoles, and iPods are left at home if I'm on a hiking trip.
