| Music This has increasingly become a peeve. Just the same as people walk along with MP3 players blasting out for all to hear, some have started doing so when they hike.
Have you come across this? It completely spoils the peace of a hike.

| How is that any louder/more disturbing to your hike than if they were walking and talking with someone during their hike. I've heard some loud headphones before, but in each case you need to just but a few yards distance between yourself and them, and you cannot hear the music anymore.
But perhaps I've misunderstood you. If you're talking about someone NOT using headphones and blaring music, then that's not right for almost any situation.
I have never, ever, ever seen than while hiking and very rarely in urban walking. So you might just have bad luck.
Are you talking about loud music spilling out from headphones, or people using speakers?

| I would assume the worst, he/she is talking about people playing music without headphones. That's really terrible especially in such places. I am not a music person myself. I don't even listen to music when working on the computer.

| I would rather listen to the sounds of nature than to listen to music. I can listen to music when I'm home, I don't need it in the woods too. Think how many animals you scare off that you could have seen.

| I have not come across people blasting music while hiking. I am sorry to hear that you have, I hope it will not become a trend.

| I have to agree with WileE - I have no desire to listen to music while hiking. I think it would be distracting and I would rather focus on my surroundings.
If you are coming across people who are listening to music without headphones, that is very rude. I've never seen this personally, but I would probably have to say something if I did.

| I would also be very irritated if I come across someone playing music loudly in the quiet nature, especially if the music he is playing is not of my taste.

| I'm someone who loves to listen to music. I listen at work, going to sleep, and just about any chance I can get. That being said, when I go hiking, camping, kayaking, or just about any other outdoor activity I leave the iPod at home. Nature sounds better.

| I like to listen to music sometimes when I am hiking, it takes my mind off my aching muscles lol! I don't turn it way up though because I want to be aware of everything that is going on around me.
