Default Wild Fruits

Do you eat wild fruits while you are hiking? I am a person who is very inquisitive about new fruits. I know eating unknown fruits is dangerous but I tend to taste news fruits that I find along the trail. Do you also taste or eat wild fruits?

No.

You shouldn't either. Only eat fruit in the wild if you're 100 percent sure about it. Even on TV shows like Survivorman, where he teaches you how to survive off the land, he (Les Stroud) goes out with a local guide and walks through what's safe to eat and what isn't. Stoud's a survival expert, and even he seeks the advice of a guide. Us weekend warrior hikers, we shouldn't even try.

Watch the end of the movie "Into the Wild," and you'll see the consequences of eating the wrong thing.

I would get a book on that subject if I wanted to see what was good to eat. There are so many poisonous plants out there. Or like 2coast said, ask a guide first.

I do not eat anything I do know what it is. But oranges, tangerines and grate fruit are so plentiful down here, it is hard not to eat them.

I did watch the movie "Into the wild". And I think this is the best movie for backpackers like us.

I only taste fruits or berries if the birds have eaten on some. But you are right that its not a good idea to eat wild fruits.

You can eat wild fruits if you know what you are eating. If you have a guide book on the foods that can be eaten in the wild then go on and eat the fruits that find in the wild. But of you have no idea about the fruit then better avoid it. Better be hungry than be poisoned.
