| Which is better, an airbed or a foam pad? I am trying to decide which is the warmer for fall camping trips, an airbed or a foam pad under my sleeping bag. I'm thinking it the foam as air under you can feel chilly. Which one do you prefer and for which seasons?

| For me, airbeds. They are inflatable, foldable and lightweight compared to foam pads so they don't cause too much weight when I take it with me to the campground.

| Personally I would go with the foam pad. The amount of time and hassle it takes to inflate an air mattress could be spent doing something else.
And if you get a small hole in the foam mattress you can still use it. Unless you bring patches with you the air mattress will be useless if it gets a leak.

| I vote for the foam pads. They are warmer than an air mattress. A little harder to lug around but well worth it when it`s cold.

| Another vote for foam mattresses here. I find them warmer than airbeds too.

| I wonder if a foam mattress would really be warmer because you will be closer to the ground. If you are on an air mattress you are further up from the ground.
For ease, I would go with a foam pad...for warmth, I might go with both.

| Why not use both?
In the thermarest airpads, there's also a layer of foam on the inside. They offer warmth, as well as the ability to customize the support level. I always put an extra puff or two of air in mind to make it extra firm.

| I prefer the airbeds because they are easier to tote. I don't go camping in the winter, so warmth isn't a big issue for me.

| Airbed! Summer, winter, fall, or spring I will always vote for the airbed. I think they are warmer and they definitely offer more support.

| Take both if you have the room. Airbed and then to foam mattress on top for the extra comfort and warmth. You can easily roll up a mattress like a sleeping bag and just bunge cord around it.
