Have you ever been sprayed by a skunk?

Was watching a corny movie and a character surprised a skunk and you know what happened... Has anyone here ever come to close to a skunk and been sprayed? Is there really anything that can help get rid of the smell?

OMG~ yes, I was! It was a long time ago. There was a baby skunk sitting in our garage right on the step. I opened the door to go outside and the door hit the skunk and it sprayed! Our kitchen and pretty much the whole house smelled like skunk! Yes, I took a bath in tomato juice because this is what people said would take the stink out. I bathed and bathed and we cleaned and cleaned. It finally did stop smelling!
That was a bad night for me!

I was camping one time and set a trap before I went to sleep. I set the trap near my tent which was a very big mistake. The trap got a skunk and all the clothes that I hanged the night before have the smell of the pungent odor of skunk. I never have used those clothes anymore because I can't remove the bad smell.

You never forget the smell of a skunk. I have to admit I have been victim to a skunk's spray. I just threw the clothes away and soaked and scrubbed and repeated many times!

I don't know the odor of a skunk. Mentioning the name of it seems stinky already. But can anyone describe how does it smell? I'm just curious why we have to throw the clothes that have been sprayed by skunk.

I have never been sprayed but my dog was. I was a little girl at the time. I remember my dad using tomato juice to bathe him in. I have no idea how to describe the smell.
