The movement employs the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. Another widely recognized movement characteristic is the Scout uniform, by intent hiding all differences of social standing in a country and making for equality, with neckerchief and campaign hat or comparable head wear. Distinctive uniform insignia include the fleur-de-lis and the trefoil, as well as merit badges and other patches.

I was part of the scout movement up until I turned 13 and then we didn't have a scout troup for highschoolers in our town. I loved it. I learned so many things from our scout meetings and I learned character and how to survive in the woods. They are one of the few groups that work with children that still have some good old fashioned principles.

I was a scout during my younger days and that is where I learned how to build a fire with firewoods. I also learned how to hike a trail, basic safety guidelines and basic first aid.

Steve S,
Congratulations on your accomplishments thus far. I was never a Scout but as a Scouter I have had many years helping boys achieve their goals within the guidelines of the Scouting Movement. My own son just finished the 20 mile hike today. With everything else done (including the Project) he now has to turn in his Eagle application. Troop 210 Soddy Daisy, TN
