Bamboo Rod

I've seen an old movie and in that movie, they fish using bamboo rods. Is there anyone here who have tried bamboo as their rod? How strong is a bamboo used as fishing rod?

I used to have a three piece bamboo rod. No reel with it. Just a rod and some string tied to the end. It worked really well. You cannot really cast with it, but I enjoyed it. I wish I would have kept it.

I have a bamboo rod in the garage but I haven't used it for a long time. I don't know if its rotten already. It was strong and flexible when I was still using it. And what jason is true that bamboo rods don't require casting and reeling. Bamboo rods are generally used for spin fishing.

I read somewhere that in the past anglers used bamboo rod to fly fish. They sliced bamboo into four long pieces then attached them together over a solid base to give the rod more spring. I myself never used a bamboo fly rod.

Where can we get a bamboo fishing rod? I'm interested in having one just to add on my collection.

Will the rod rot as time pass by? It is still made of wood from bamboo so I'm thinking that it will decay some time.

What kind of fish is good for this kind of rod? I'm thinking that fishes that are heavy would break the rod.

I usually picked up pan fish on it. Nothing super big. I would not go for anything like bass or catfish.

I saw bambo rods sold on some tackle stores, but they are expensive. I would prefer to use the conventional ones which I am used to and able to afford the price.
