Fishing Up A Snake

Has anyone ever ran into this problem before? We went fishing at a different lake recently. I assume this lake has a major snake problem. We ended up 'catching' about three snakes. I've never had anything like this happen before! Of course, I just cut them lose as soon as we knew. I didn't want to chance it since we have water moccasins in the area.

I've never caught a snake fishing before, but I've seen enough of them bobbing their heads up out of the water right near my bait. Scares me to death that a water moccasin will grab it and go all the time.
