    Cooking Egg With Mud

I have never heard of this before and I don't even like boiled eggs, but I am going to try it. The kids will probably get a huge kick out of it and the dog loves hard boiled eggs!

    Ebola...are you worried?

Ebola is all over the news right now so I am just wondering how many of you are concerned about the spread of Ebola here in the US? Do you think that this is something that can/will reach pandemic status over here?

    Emergency kit.

We have an emergency kit for everything! One for the house, one for each vehicle, one in our BOB's, and one in our hiking backpacks. We also have 72 hour kits in the vehicles and at the house, one for each family member. This is an excellent website with lists of ideas for what should be in...

Ideas for teaching wilderness survival as a part of a home-school curriculum

Does anyone here have some ideas for teaching wilderness survival as a part of a home-school curriculum? My kids are still kind of young for very much wilderness survival training, but we are part of a homeschooling co-op and some of the other members thought it was an interesting concept.

    .....22s available.....

Lucky! We still don't have them available down here and 9mm's are still scarce and over priced! I keep hoping that it will become more widely available because we haven't been to the range in months!

    Tiny houses

The name of the documentary is TINY: A Story About Living Small and I think it is still available on Netflix if you have it. I know there is a show about building tiny houses and the company who does it, but we don't have cable (part of that whole downsizing thing ;)) so I haven't seen it...

    Potato soup recipe

Ponderosa I already made yours and it was delicious! Blueridge and Dinosaur I am going to be trying your recipes too. Even though potatoes aren't as cheap as they used to be they still make a filling and fairly inexpensive meal.

Do you hunt for your own food when camping?

We do hunt and fish for our own food, but not usually on camping or hiking trips. I always make sure we have enough food with us for the trip.

    Open up those windows!

I have actually been able to keep our windows open since I wrote this which is pretty surprising for here. It is actually getting a little chilly in the house today with them open because it is rainy and cool.

    Tiny houses

I dream of the day where we can finally move in to our own tiny house. In the meantime we are making a concentrated effort to shed the things we don't need. Even if we can't live in the tiny house just yet, it is very freeing to have more space and less junk!

$1000 fine for pictures in NF

Well, by the time I saw this the article had been updated to say that the Forestry service was backing off of the fines. Reading through the updated article though I am not so sure about that. This country has gotten very heavy handed about having regulations and fines for absolutely everything!

E-cigarettes used as a deadly weapon

Well, it is possible for them to aerosolize deadly viruses and put them in Lysol cans and asthma inhalers so I am sure that it is possible. Is it likely to happen? Probably not, because there are much easier ways to spread a virus like that.

    Potato soup recipe

Do any of you guys have a really great recipe for potato soup? I am having some issues with my jaw and need to go on a soft diet for a few days. My grandmother always used to make me potato soup as a kid, but sadly I never got her recipe.

    Best sausage for gumbo...

I like andouille sausage in my gumbo, but we have made it with all different kinds of sausage before. I had some gumbo recently with chorizo sausage and it was excellent.

    Tiny houses

We have watched the tiny house documentary several times now and owning one is now our goal. There is a channel on YouTube by Kirsten Dirksen with a lot of other documentaries about the tiny house movement and they are all excellent.

    Campers Behaving Badly

You are one brave lady Blazer. I don't know that I would have wanted to stay there alone after the first incident with the ranger. I am absolutely with you on finding places to camp that are well away from the crowds though.

How to lighten the load on a budget

Thanks for the links Refrigerator! I like to keep stuff like that around the house as well just in case of emergencies or long power outages. I used to be an "everything but the kitchen sink" hiker/camper but as I have gotten more experienced I take a lot less with me.

A laser pointer for sos is important for Camping?

A good flashlight with a strobe light setting would probably be much more effective than any kind of laser pointer. Particularly when it comes to camping and backpacking, I don't think it is necessary to have tools that only perform one basic function.

Colorado woman found this under her porch

Yikes! A cougar under the porch is a little closer to wildlife than I want to be in my every day life. I know that we do have coyotes around here though, and the park rangers have been after a black bear that is wandering through neighborhoods for about three months.

    Bear Gryll's new adventures...!!

I haven't seen any of these shows either. We also don't have cable anymore, but I will have to look and see if I can find them on YouTube.
