When, if ever, is the best time to find camping equiptment on sale? I am still waiting to see things go on clearance at our Walmart, but no such luck. Do you think maybe after the first of the year?

We usually have a very white Christmas. I live in the snowbelt area, near Buffalo, NY. We have been lucky so far this year. There are only little spots of snow on the ground right now.

We are not hunters, but my husband is also a meat cutter. During deer season, he works nights at the deer processing place in our town~ it makes for great Christmas money! This year they have had a bear and an elk come in along with the deer.

I agree...I would not make it in cold weather, especially in a tent! If my feet get cold, I am done for. It is nice to have cool weather to sleep in, but stay out of the cold!!

Do you hang your deer heads and other animal heads on the walls in your house? I have a friend whose husband got a bear and he had it stuffed! It is so cool to see in thier house.

The other day I looked out in my backyard and there were two hunters walking behind my kids swingset, gun on back and all!! We live in the country and don't own the land behind our swings. Isn't there a certain rule on how close or far away from a house you can hunt??

I read somewhere that you should put on vanilla scent to keep the mosquitoes away. This is what we used last year and were lucky enough to not be bitten up. I don't know if it was actually the vanilla, but I will try it again next year.

I do budget for camping. We take about $1000 and put it aside every year just for our camping. This way we can actually call it a vacation and we aren't scraping to get by.

I have a friend who goes into Canada to go fishing every summer. The ladies go along for the camping, while the men go for the fishing. It is about a week long trip. Does anyone here take a yearly fishing trip?

I say you only live once, so go ahead and give it a try. I agree with Bushman~ you can't live your life in fear of what might happen. When you are old and can't do this you may regret never trying.

The only holidays we go camping for are Memorial Day, The 4th of July, and Labor Day. I have gone to Florida for Thanksgiving and pulled a pop up. On the way down we stopped and slept at a campground.
