    Volunteer trail marking

We also do tree planting in our area and we also help clean up the forest grounds. You won't believe what garbage some people leave behind. And they leave it hidden...

    Is bigger better??

I love RVs although we do not own one. My dream is to live in one of those when we retire and the children have their own nests. That way we can go anywhere without thinking about hotel bills...

    Red ants ate my tent?!

I've always been wary of ants, especially those dark red ones that bite like a bee sting. Anytime there are tiny bits of food around, the ants are not far behind. We always keep the food out of the tent when camping to prevent ants from coming in.

Do you listen to music when you hike?

I only listen to the sounds of nature when hiking. Aside from the entertainment it provides, it also alerts me to sounds that may signal danger. I listen to some music only when in the safety of my house or in the car.

Do you rough it, or bring luxuries?

I'm a minimalist when it comes to tent camping since I do most of mine on a motorcycle, ( Goldwing 1800.) K,I,S.S. Tent, bag, inflatable mattress, mess kit and first aid kit in addition to your all-weather gear, etc. ENJOY!

    Inflatable Kayaks

I have some apprehensions about anything that is inflatable used as a means to float in the water. I fear that something might cause a hole to deflate it, no matter how thick or how sturdy they say it is.

How do you learn river rafting?

It is always better to go with a guide who knows the river like the palm of his hand. They know the best strokes to use when paddling and which parts are the most dangerous.

    short hair!

I like my curly hair long so I can style it in different ways. I can tie it, braid it, plait it, etc. I seldom let it loose especially during the summer months. I even have it tied on top of my head when I go to sleep.

    Lost in a Storm

I read about a group of young people who climbed up a mountain (a day hike) but were caught in a sudden storm and could not get down. They had to stay overnight with no shelter...

    Using the sun for direction

I remember when I was a girl scout, we were taught to leave trail marks when hiking so that those who will follow will find the camp site and we can return to where we started easily. Like you have to place 3 stones on top of each other as a marker or to break a big twig from a tree and let it...

    educate the youth

Giving lectures is not enough for the kids to learn. They are naturally curious. Examples and experience are the best teachers, which the kids should get from home, not anywhere else.

Another Grizzly story with a happy ending

I agree with Tubby. That horse was worth more than the money the owner paid for him. He has a good sense of human affiliation and has a lot more courage than his size.

    Ziplining

When I look at pictures of people doing it, I really long to try it. It seems so much fun, and it is one of the things I plan to do in the future. Wooohhh!

    ATV vs Motorcyle

One has only two wheels and the other has four wheels. Which performs better in rough terrains where there are no established trails? Which is more safe off road?

    Gps

I have been wondering how helpful is a GPS when you are in the wilderness. How reliable is it and would it still work if there is no communication signal in the deep forest?

    Salt Water Pool

That sounds a cool alternative to going out and walking in the hot sand to get into the water. And I am more comfortable when I know the depth of the water that I am in...

    Underwater Caving

I have always been afraid of deep waters, so I think that is something that is out of my league. But the underwater world really looks so beautiful and so peaceful in pictures...

    Aquarium fishes

I guess freshwater fishes can't be kept in an aquarium for a long time since they tend to outgrow the aquarium. Can you eat them when they are big enough to be cooked?

    Self-inflating Mattress

It was a new one purchased about two years ago. Maybe it was the storage problem that caused the difficulty. I will try Grandpa's suggestion about the storage for a change.

    Self-inflating Mattress

Any suggestions regarding a self-inflating mattress for back packing? I am having a difficult time getting the one I purchased from E-bay to even moderately inflate.
