In your opinions is a 3 day course enough time to learn some basics? My girls are doing survivor training with their girl guide troop, They have the option to do a 5 day instead but the other parents think 3 day is sufficient but me.

I think we would celebrate more if my grandad was still alive, he seemed to keep the traditions alive. It is kind of sad to realize we are letting them slip away.

For stockpiling, it is harder with more people. There is 5 in my family too as well as my parents live next door. I don't think I could result to killing my dog or my family to eat.

Does anyone know of a place to take a map reading or compass reading course? I have looked all over. I am the first to admit I suck at reading both a map and a compass.

We went to a national park in Newfoundland when I was a kid, we saw a moose on the side of the road, we slowed down and opened the van door, he still stood there. Once we set up camp, we went for a walk and there was a bear sleeping under a tree.

Have you tried any of those places online they advertise? They book cheaper rooms when they aren't full. A friend of mine always uses them, I don't hotel/motel much so I am unsure.

Do you have a trailer on your ATV? We have one we use for doing yard work, it hooks up to both the ATV and the lawn tractor, I am just wondering how practical it would be to use that trailer to hall supplies to a camping site?

We used to own an old CJ-7, it was an '82. I loved that thing, eventually it died and we had kids so it wasn't practical to get another. I am not a fan of the YJ, I don't care for the square headlights, I like the TJs, they go back to the round headlights.

Depends on where we camp. If it is a place we know, they can wander around, if it is a new place, I scope it out first and give them some boundaries.

Welcome Betsy! I have learned a lot since I joined this wonderful forum, there are some very knowledgeable people here that are not afraid to share their experiences.

I am not sure how I would like rolling around in a cave with who knows what. Friends of mine explored a bat cave not long ago. I am not a fan of enclosed spaces.

We have 2 big ones planned and we plan to at least hike once a weekend, even if it is just a short hike, we want to get out in the woods with the kids.

I have no issue with drinking, but you need to be responsible and once your stupidity flows over into other campers, it becomes a pain in the @ss that is not necessary.
