    Meal time planning

You kind of have to plan it, unless you are hunting for it. If you don't plan it, how will you know that you are carrying enough?

    Walking Sticks

One had free is a good point-I've struggled in the past, or rather had to stop do get something done because I use two poles. All the same, I like it that way.

    Wild kids - unattended

I disagree with letting kids run free when it spoils the enjoyment of every other person in the camp. As you say-one responsible adult should be there and keeping control.

    Five fingers

Very weird. I've worn toe socks, and got used to those eventually. But to have my toes in something more firm, well it looks odd! Let us know how you get on with them.

    Snacks

I realise that snacks aren't good for you. But when I'm going to be hiking anyway, I figure I'll burn it off. I love making s'mores. What's your poison?

    Smokers?

I quit some years ago but my friend uses a portable ashtray. It seals well and doesn't smell, and holds enough for more than a day's use.

    Dehydrators

When you dry foods like this, how do you rehydrate and cook them on the move? I'm just curious as I've never done this before.

    First Aid Kits

I don't have a dog, and I guess I just assume that anyone who does would carry their own kit. My own kit has nothing special in it, and sadly I've never considered the need to keep it close at hand.

    Ladies Only: Pottie Talk!

I've seen things like that but the idea of using one is just too weird. I'm not sure that I could risk wet trousers because I failed to use it right and dribbled!

    Foil Blankets

Does anyone else use (and re-use) the foil emergency blankets around, or under your sleeping bag? It was recommended this weekend as a way of beating the cold, but isn't it awful sweaty?

    Repairing Hiking Boots

A good pair of hiking boots should last you long enough that it's worth buying a new pair, and then going through the whole breaking in period again. I wouldn't worry so much-treat yourself.

    Dirty/musty tent

I think that if it's already musty, you'd be better of washing it properly now and just making sure that this doesn't happen again. Be gentle with it, and as Grandpa said, don't forget to treat it or you'll have fun next time you take it out!

    Camera Waterproofing

Have you tried a waterproof camera on a hike or when camping? It seems to rain more often than not, and I don't want to damage the camera. Are the add on kits any good?

Would you let your daughter hunt?

As long as they are still willing to be out there, to be spending time with you guys and to be away from home, I think that's the most important thing. It's a good way to bond.

    Pitch and Leave Your Tent?

I'm curious. Why don't you take the dog with you? Surely they need some exercise, and otherwise will need to be pretty tethered to camp when you get back-meaning not much freedom at all.

    In tent air conditioner

I'm sure there are plenty of people that will buy them. I once had to carry a battery powered, full sized fan back for my brother in law so he could sleep with white noise in a tent. I still don't understand why he couldn't just use an MP3.

    The Air Up There

I make a train journey quite frequently, and go from city to country-by the seaside. That's where I notice the most start difference, because I'm not walking in it, and feeling the gradual change.

    Commercial Hammock

Those look so good. I have trouble with hammocks myself, they don't suit my back and my hips need to be flat. Yet, the thought of being off the ground is very appealing.

    Potty Talk

How do you and your family handle bathroom arrangements on a camp site? Do you just use the toilet block? We've used a porta potty a few times, and it wasn't exactly a great experience, but better than the hole in the woods we've used other times. Still, I'd like a porta potty that works a bit...

    Slow Hike and Teaching

No, but there are VERY slow hikes with five and six year olds! All they do is dawdle-I can't light a fire under them no matter how much I nag them to let us get home before the sun goes down!
