    Golf carts!

I know golf carts are a nuisance to drivers, but in the right place, they can be so much fun. We love seeing the golf cart parade at July 4th and Halloween festivities at a campground down the road. I especially like seeing older people all decked out having fun.

    Practice pays off

My nephew has spent the last couple of years practicing with his bow and arrow in his grandmother's back yard. He's 14 and gets really bored during the summer and practices on targets and tin cans. He's been asked to be on the county archery team. The guy who saw him says he's the best shot he's...

    Extreme RVs

I love the look of Airstream trailers, but when you get to the giant, really expensive ones, I'm out of there. At some point, the responsibility of owning it outweighs the recreational value of such a vehicle.

    Time for Spring Stocking

Lots of people have aquariums, but you take the prize, dinosaur. You must be really proud of what you've accomplished. Not many people would take on that big a challenge. I wish we could see it. It would be great to bring a pole or two.

    Hiking Insoles?

When you begin to get a blister, or when a part of your shoe is rubbing your skin, moleskin can be your best friend. Purchase it at the drugstore, cut it to size and stick it to the affected area. Moleskin saved my life many a day.

    Increase in survival interest

I agree with Grandpa about the media influencing what people are doing across the country. When the duck people shows appear on my television, I change the channel. I think it reminds me too much of people in my family, too. I know them too well.

    Women's bike

While I'm not exactly in the bicycle-built-for-two category, I want an old-fashioned bicycle that's easy on the tush, the knees and the calves. I do enjoy riding around the block on a bike. At least I'm still able to do that.

    North Georgia rivers

I would hate to live in that area and have to hear about it all the time. We have enough fights of our own around here in eastern North Carolina. At least we're not battling over water -- yet!

Huge Knives That Can't Cut Wood

I have had similar issues with my kitchen knives. I have a few that, no matter how little I use them or how often I have them sharpened, are always dull.

    Rappelling Age

I've seen my grandchildren make decisions that just aren't smart. They think they are invincible, or they just quit in the middle and think screaming fixes things. It depends on the child, I think. Ten is mighty young for children with little outdoor experience.

    Time for Spring Stocking

I envy you that you have your own pond to stock. We take so many things for granted. I see a pond and immediately think there are fish in it. I don't often remember that someone usually stocks it if it has good fish in it.

    Trees catching fire

Some people were camping near here this weekend, and their fire set the trees around them on fire. I know no one plans to do anything like this, but it's a reminder to be extra careful. Those sparks drift and can be deadly. Luckily, there were people in the area who were able to respond quickly...

Article I Wrote for Beyond Limits Magazine

What a great adventure you have had. I'm always intrigued by the back stories of people who walk around various countries. I'm so impressed by their independence and endurance. I can't help but think of days well before the present ones when people did this all the time.

Took my 2 boys on their 1st hike

Aren't the times with the kids the best of times? How cold did it get on your first hike? I admire people who get out into Nature no matter what the temperatures might be. I'm a chicken myself, and am waiting for warmer weather.

    Headwear Of Choice?

I have this old floppy hat that is 100 years old. It ties under the chin in case I'm on a boat or the weather is really windy. The grandchildren laugh at it, but I love it.

Winning a tournament without a fishing license

I would be so upset if I were in any pair of shoes involved in this situation. Even if I were the runner-up, I'd be too nervous to even think about winning since a court might overturn the ruling. My own belief is that rules are rules. They are there for a reason.

    New Dual Survival

I haven't seen this show even advertised. That tells how much television I watch these days. Most of the programming really has gone to pot.

    North Georgia rivers

I was just reading how Georgia is planning to redraw its northern boundaries so it can claim part of the Tennessee River to help with its drought problems. I'd like a little more land in my side yard. I wonder if my neighbor would mind my taking part of his?

    Spring break

We had lunch today with some of our family. They've just gotten back from the Cayman Islands, are heading to the beach for Easter break. Then they are taking some of the college-aged grandchildren to San Francisco. I'm so envious.

    Any hangers?

I had forgotten how much I loved sleeping in a hammock, or just lying out in one and reading a good book. Why haven't we thought of buying one for the yard? It's going on my spring shopping list. I'm at home now most of the time, so I could find plenty of time to slip away into one.
