    FYI: Limping Dog

Thanks for stressing this. It's important to look after your furry friends if they'll be joining you on any extensive treks. They can't speak for themselves, so be sure to check up on them regularly.

    Stake your boats well

This is good advice that's easy to overlook. It's amazing how such a small act could rack up some serious damage if you neglect to do it!

    New Classic Handgun

No I haven't, but that sounds pretty badass. I personally would be too nervous handling something so small and powerful when it comes to hunting. I prefer guns that are held far from my body.

Alligator attack: Florida teenager loses part of arm

You'd think someone from Florida would understand the risk of gators when it comes to wild waters. I guess not! This is exactly why you should only go swimming in designated areas.

    Close one!

It seems like they're treating a serious situation very casually. Luckily the dude caught himself against the rock, or he would have gone careening off the mountain!

Natural (Wool) vs Synthetic (Fleece, Drymax)?

I prefer the man-made stuff because I really do believe it's more durable. Plus the instructions to use it and care for it are generally more clear.

    Hi from hikeorbike

I've dabbled in these forums for long enough; it's time to introduce myself! I'm hikeorbike, and like the name implies, hiking and biking are what get me moving. I live in the city with my two dogs, but escape to the great outdoors at least once a month. I've really enjoyed all of the tips and...

    Hillbilly handfishing

Part of me would like to try this, and the other part of me is scared that I would get bit by something! I'd have to have a guarantee that I wasn't offering my hands as a snack into whatever body of water they ventured into.

Best part of U.S. for survival

Wherever the weather is fairly mild and free from natural disasters and freak storms. I don't need any of that adding to my survival troubles!

    Fire starters

I have never thought to throw something like Fritos in the fire! Good tip! Making a good, strong, steady fire is harder than it looks.

Do You Use A Helmet When Riding

I do as a safety precaution and insurance, but I don't necessarily love the look or feel of it. It only takes one time of riding ballsy without a helmet for you to regret it.

    Sunscreen Application Frequency?

Anything above SPF 50 doesn't do anything supposedly. Make sure you are using good quality stuff, laying it on thick and not missing any areas! Also wear heavy fibers like jeans if you can. That's the best sun protection around!

    Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites

Sounds like a delicious combo and super easy, too! It's good to have as many "grab and go" snacks as possible when camping/hiking/being outdoors.

    Bigfoot

It's possible that new, strange and unusual creatures exist that might resemble something of a Bigfoot nature, but if we're talking an upright ape/gorilla/man/Chewbacca hybrid, no I don't think that exists.

    Are you really camping?

No, I don't think you are really camping if you are doing it in motorized convenience. That is just one step down from a hotel. RVs are a great way to tour the country, sure, but they're hardly close to nature.

    How did you discover camping?

I think my first time was in Brownies when I used to go away for weeks at various summer camps. After that, my mom and I often stayed at campgrounds to save money when we were moving across the country.

    Food/Health supplements

I take a daily multivitamin when I remember to (so, not daily!) and also Omega 3 pills on occasion. I don't think anything more than that is necessary. Vitamins themselves are still under fire when it comes to their effectiveness.
