Cell Phones at the Camp Site

Just lock up the electronics. It is hard to put them down, but once you do, you appreciate where you are more. We always lock ours up in the car when we camp.

    We are in the negative

Brrr! Below zero is an awful temperature to experience. Of course my blood has thinned so much that I get cold long before then, but I know it's not the same as those bone-chilling temperatures. Stay warm!

    Favorite Caves For Exploring

I've only explored tourist attraction caves myself. I saw some neat ones in the Black Hills in South Dakota. I can't remember their names, though.

    Ice Storms

How are you all doing after those awful ice storms came through? Ice storms make for pretty scenery, but no electricity and branches coming down are no fun.

Weather Advisory for NY & PA

I'm glad you are settled in cozily, campclose. Hopefully you won't have to unexpectedly go out in the weather until the storm passes. I do not miss winter storms.

Remember the 19 firefighters that died?

I thought in this particular case, a freak change in wind was the major cause, not a neglect issue. However, I don't know all that much about it so I could easily be mistaken. I agree that preventative forestry management is key to reducing fires.

    Favorite Fish

Tilapia is a little bland and I dislike catfish. I like most other fish, but trout is probably my favorite. I once had some kind of white fish at a fish boil up in Wisconsin. I wish I knew what it was; it was so good.

    Christmas Camping

I don't know if it makes me a sheep or a goat, but I'll stay inside rather than camp during the winter. I'd do some kind of "camping" inside with the kids, although it'd make it trickier to put out gifts if they are sleeping in the living room where our tree is.

    Favorite Fish

What is your favorite fish to catch and eat? Is that fish local so you can try to get it frequently, or can you only catch it yourself while on vacation?

    Knives for the Nephew

He sounds pretty well set on knives, actually. As Coz suggested, a whetstone would probably be more useful to him. What other camping supplies might he need?

    Bears

You guys are right. It's best to hang food up regardless of bear threats so you don't have to deal with other wildlife coming by for a snack. "Bear burrito" made me laugh. :D

    Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Meal

That sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. I enjoy the traditional one just fine, but I wouldn't mind switching it up for some red snapper and oysters.

    Bike Tours

I have never been on a bike tour, but they always sounded fun to me. Of course, I'd have to do some preparation in advance; right now I still get saddle sore!

    Venison or Turkey?

We always have turkey on Thanksgiving. I like venison but haven't even had any in years. I used to get some all the time when I had a neighbor who hunted but that was awhile ago.

    The fox method

Wow, that is pretty amazing to watch. Dinosaur, I've never had fox meat. How else do you prepare it besides in a chili? I don’t care for chili.

    I miss mountain biking

I haven't been mountain biking in years. It can be fun, especially since you have to watch more carefully for obstacles. I live in a very flat area, though, so probably even little hills would be a big challenge now.

    Cold Weather Camping

Does anyone here actually enjoy camping in cold weather? I'm very sensitive to cold and can't imagine camping up north during the winter, but I know some people do and love it.

An Often Ignored But Potentially Deadly Camping Hazard

Carbon monoxide is a pretty common hazard, so our smoke detectors have a CO detector as well. It amazes me that people will do things like use a grill inside an enclosed garage.

    Storms Took Out Our Campsite

Well that is frustrating, but I agree with ppine. It's great to have that firewood without having to cut the trees down yourself. You’ll be happier about the situation after you get the wood cut and stacked.

    meat differences

I've never had meat from a real farm, instead of a factory. I considered getting chickens myself, since I love the fresh eggs, but taking care of them just wouldn't fit well into our current lifestyle. I don't know many people who raise chickens for meat instead of eggs.
