    Camper vs. Tent

I've been pondering this question myself lately. We've always tent camped. But I've been looking at the tear drops and have to say that I'd like to give it a whirl. Just not sure I can talk the hubby into giving up his tent (think Linus and his blankie). I'm trying a compromise and telling...

    Bird Watching

Absolutely! Since I travel between Florida and North Carolina, I use the Florida base during the winter and have compiled a great library of shots from over 120 birds (photos that is - we don't really SHOOT them!!). Have gone to several key hotspots over the past several years specifically for...

    Had it!

Hopefully hubby is now well and kids are back to normal. When mine were little and I got to that point, I would just watch the kids and try to figure out what was so fun that they persisted - if it was that much fun, maybe it was what I needed also. Then I'd join them in the fun - take them...

    Oddest Experience While Camping

So what's the oddest experience you've had camping? Things that make you scratch your head and go "hmm??". For me - we were camping in Shenandoah National Park for our anniversary. I always put my shoes out in the tent vestibule - they stay dry, but I don't have to smell them at night if I...

    Greetings from Florida

Hi there! Welcome from a part time (but Native) Floridian. What part of Florida do you wander? North Florida here (and NC every other week).

    How cold is too cold?

We do exactly what Ducttape just said. Works like a charm every time. Even if it's not that cold out, helps regulate your top and bottom body temps so you don't have those pesky hold and cold spots. Even my husband (that man NEVER feels the cold) remarked on the difference it made in keeping...

    Finding Your Significant Other

I met my hubbie around a campfire! We were both camped in the same campground, next to each other. He had a REALLY nice camera, and I had just started photography, so I asked him for some pointers for a hike and shoot at a waterfall the next day. We decided to go on the hike together the next...

    Headwear Of Choice?

Baseball cap when hiking (I have had several bouts with skin cancer on the top of my head, even though protected by my hair). And when car camping, a beanie at night in the fall/winter.

    So....whaju do this weekend?

Went camping at Big Creek in GSMNP. Very small campground - there are only 12 sites. Only two other sites besides ours was occupied. Hunted wildflowers and wild birds - and did some star gazing. All in all a wonderful time!

    Small Trailer for Camping Gear

I couldn't find it online at Northern Tool - they said it was no longer available. I did find a Tow-and-Stow that was a VERY interesting concept that may be something like that (or if you have a different link)?? Waaaay too pricey but really started me thinking along the lines of how to better...

    Longest Trips

Longest trip was 3 weeks solo car camping from Florida to Colorado, side trip to Wyoming and then back. The planning was a LOT more extensive than a weekend or a week long trip. And I made sure I planned in some laundry time . I will admit that when it started snowing with cold rain and ice...

    Small Trailer for Camping Gear

You are probably right. Looks really nice, but I've got too many things that look nice but just don't do the job.

    Small Trailer for Camping Gear

I was looking at something like this but I'm just not sure it's big enough. The camper idea is good, but wondering if that would be too big. I feel like Goldilocks here. Can't figure out what's the right size. I might try to see if that Pulmor can be rented and that would let me know if...

    Small Trailer for Camping Gear

My husband and I are getting ready for a few extended tent camping trips. We want to put as much gear as possible in some kind of an enclosed trailer that could be hauled behind an average SUV (like a Tuscon or Subaru Forester). We want it low enough to see over the top when looking in the...

    Hiking Insoles?

I use those Dr. Scholl's custom orthotics (the one's with the booth like fitting area in local Walmarts). Those things have REALLY saved my feet and knees. I have a pair now for every hiking and walking shoe I own. When my knees or feet start bothering me again, I replace them (which so far...

spring, allergies, pollen & tent camping

Here's what works for me when I go camping (I get a LOT of sinus headaches more so than sneezes) - I take along the NeilMed Sinus rinse stuff with the little packets and use it every night and morning. In addition, I read somewhere that you should not bring into the tent the clothes that you...
