    Flying Insects

I have a semi-enclosed front porch I like to sit in from time to time, but I'm getting eaten alive these days. What's the best repellant I can buy, like those things you sit out that look like fancy incense burners and let off smoke, to keep all those flying insects on the outside of the porch?

    Pre-Season Game

I'm bummed. I wasn't able to catch the pre-season game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins. Does anyone know who won? I know it's still pre-season, but still, it's football.

Who's Up For The North Pole?

If you had the chance, you you trek to the north pole just to say you did? I think those would be some pretty awesome bragging rights to say that you hiked to the top of the world.

    What's In A Name?

I checked the news this morning, and the royal couple still hasn't picked out a name for their baby boy. What do you think it's going to be? What do you think it should be?

    Microbursts

Camping in mildly inclement weather can be kind fun, right? What I'm leary of sometimes is getting caught in a microburst. A very location specific storm cell that is very severe. They have been known to tear up very mature tree's out of the ground. Has anyone seen one up close and personal?

Where Gravity Doesn't Work Too Well

I remember years ago seeing a picture of my mom that someone took when they took a trip to Utah. This was back in the 50's. In the picture she was standing in the doorway of a house, and she was leaning backwards. She looked like she wasn't trying to do that. I asked my mom about the...

    Fire Lines

What exactly is a fire line? I'm pretty sure I have the term right. It has something to do with preventing a fire from going past a certain point. Anyone here know what I'm referring to?

    Grand Canyon

Anyone here been to the Grand Canyon to hike? Which side is the best? The north or the south? I know the north side is where it gets bitter cold in the winter, but which side is better for hiking?

    Sun Screen?

Most of us associate sunscreen with swimming. But since I like to hike and we are going through a bit of a heat wave where I live, should I put sunscreen on before I head out? I usually hike for about 2 or 3 hours and there are a lot of trees where I go so I do get shade from time to time. What...

    Out There By Choice

Close to where I live there is a National Forest. Last year, with a permit, a friend and I went looking for wood for his wood burning stove. Out there in the middle of it all was an "encampment" of people who were living there. Some by choice and some because of finances. Would you ever live...

    Fishing In The Dark

Has anyone ever actually tried this? The reason I ask is because where I live, which is out in the country, the full moon can get so bright sometimes, that seeing what you're doing isn't really an issue.

    Camping Like You're Surviving

We all go camping with a few luxuries. A cell phone, a debit card for quick stop supplies, a box of Ding Dongs, etc...... Have any of you went out camping for a week or so with the sole purpose of really roughing it? Eating what the land provides, no society contact, etc......?

    Oklahoma

I went to the local convenience store this morning to buy cigarettes and saw a donation jar for the Oklahoma tornado victims. I dropped in 5 bucks because that's all I had on me. I don't feel bad for not being able to give more because if everyone in America who went shopping for one day gave 5...

    Finding Your Significant Other

So how did you find your husband, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend? I think it's always fun to remember things like this. It also makes for good campfire conversation.

    Favorite Region

Does anyone have a certain region of the country the prefer to camp in? We all know that different regions have specific challenges. The southwest for example is going to be different than the northeast because of its climate, the terrain and the native plants and animals.

    Archeological Finds

You hear sometimes about how someone stumbles across old bones or even ruins while out hiking or camping. If you haven't done that, what was the most interesting thing you've found on the trail?

    Why Do They Do It?

You hear every year on the news about people intentionally starting forest fires. Why do you think people do this? Are they simply arsonists or do they just like to see nature burn?

Just For The Fun Of It

When was the last time anyone went out to fish without giving it any fore-thought? Fishing just for the sake of it? It's been years for me, but I miss the days when I go out, not caring what time of day I go, what's in season or even what kind of lures I have.
