I have a semi-enclosed front porch I like to sit in from time to time, but I'm getting eaten alive these days. What's the best repellant I can buy, like those things you sit out that look like fancy incense burners and let off smoke, to keep all those flying insects on the outside of the porch?

Citronella candles would be the cheapest but if you don't like the smell, a thermacell would work well. I've never used the Off clipons so can't say anything about them.

Carmen is right. Try some potted plants. Lemon balm can be purchased at the local nursery and potted. It is a perennial so you only have to buy it once assuming you can water it regularly.

Marigolds, also known as calendula, are effective too. Not only do they repel insects/mosquitos, but they add color and are edible. If you have a cat friend, keep an eye on it because marigolds may cause tummy problems for the feline.
