DO NOT BUY THIS PC. You have been warned. 2nd time in 8 months Ive had to have it replaced. Their PCs are known to overheat and short out. They have been having serious issues with their graphics cards over heating also from what im hearing. Once my 1 year warranty wears off I'm screwed. And it cost almost $200 to extend my warranty another year. Ill never make this mistake again. GOOD BYE HP. Ill go back to my standard pc desktop.

Its funny how my last pc lasted 7 years with no issues. I built it myself from a few new and used parts and a tower given to me from a friend.

I learned my lesson from HP with the last computer we bought. I have a desktop and I will never buy another HP product ever again...not even a printer. Their customer service is sooo rude, and the computers are a piece of junk. My hubby and I joke that HP stands for "huge pile".

I work for an ISP and we also have a bench that does computer service. In the years that I have worked here I can honestly say that most computer brands are the same. Heck must use the same chip and hard drives as any other brand. However that being said there are a few that I would avoid. Toshiba Laptops. Yes they seem to be cheaper and they sell a ton of them. However seeing many of these that the mother board goes out soon after the warranty. E Machines. There again offer a good price for the computing power but also seem to have issues with motherboards as they age. As far as what I see yes all makers do have some lemons, and each also have some machines that last forever. That is the thing with electronics you never really know many times have bought something that was dead out of the box. Returned it and get the same make and model and the second or third on last for years.

On the all in one model personally would not buy one of those regardless of the maker. The computer and monitor generate heat and heat is what kills electronics very quickly. Also as far as replacing things that fail like hard drive and optical drives is much more difficult and time consuming thus more expensive. I just don't see the benefit of the touch screen. Seems faster and easier to use mouse and keyboard. Can see where one might like them to save space but I really don't like the touchscreen aspect.

I am in the market for a laptop now, and other than HP I am pretty open minded. I am totally uninterested in the touch screen though. I will be researching this purchase a lot more heavily than the last though. :)

I bought grandma an HP laptop for Christmas, 2010. It has given her 0 problems and if she isn't on it, one of the grandkids is. It has been hauled to all the kids houses and really gets the use and abuse with the little ones. It has 1000's of pictures on it as well as all kinds of downloaded music. She also takes it to church every Sunday because she is in a Family History class and has it loaded up with that as well. I couldn't have asked for better quality.

I also had an HP desktop back in the windows 98 era. The computer itself was okay and served me well for that era except the motherboard would not accept expansion. I did add a zip drive for my photos but was unhappy I could not expand the memory or the speed.

I guess it's just the chance of the draw, I have had 2 HP laptops and abused the hell out of both of them. I'm typing this on the 2nd one that was bought only because the grandson wanted to keep the 1st one (and he is still abusing it)

I have never had an HP. I did have an Acer that sucked. Both USB ports broke pretty quickly. Further research uncovered that the ports them selves were put in upside down, which probably led to them getting broken.

Getting a decent computer is a matter of research, shopping, and luck. My first laptop was an HP with ME. Everyone told me how bad ME was, but it was my first puter, and I loved it. The crappy plastic case died, but otherwise the machine served me well. Then came an Averatec. All the experts hated it. I loved it. It worked well, did everything I asked of it, and was light. There were problems in the first 6 months. TWO trips to service were necessary to get it right. After that, It traveled with me, and did all my computing tasks faithfully.
My current is an HP, and it has been outstanding. NO issues at all. My wife has had a Dell (so-so) and two HPs (both worked well with no problems). As I read this, I see that my post is neither a plus nor a minus for HP. It just illustrates that it is a matter of luck if you get a good one or not.
We have never had a desk-top. Most people have better luck with those than laptops. I think that they run a little cooler.

I always try to avoid HP products. I have had three laptops from them, all have "died" within the first two months. Fried motherboards, general problems, blown hard drives, i have seen it all.

Which reminds me, how many of you lap toppers set your laptop on a pad with a fan? This may be the reason grandmas HP has served her so well as she carries the cooling pad whereever she goes.

We use laptop desks with built in fans. The desks are hollow (about an inch and a half), and the fan is inside the hollow. We usually don't plug in the fans unless the computers are really going to be worked hard, or it is one of those three digit super hot days.

Seen people place a pillow on their lap and set a laptop on the pillow. If the vents are on the bottom good way to over heat one.

I've never had HP, but I've had a lot of bad luck with Toshiba. We had a Toshiba Satellite laptop and it seriously sucked. I think we only managed to have it working for about half the time that we had it, which was only about 4 years. It was on and off working all the time, which was very annoying. I now have a Sony Vaio, which gets used like crazy (me, my husband, my kids) and so far it's holding up. I think we only had one problem with a virus after the antivirus expired, but other than that it's been a gem.

Had Crappy luck with HP laptops, but very good luck with HP desktops. The one laptop that fried itsef was loaded with Vista (POS in itself!!), and apparently had a recall on it due to overheating problems...of course, they never notified us, and by the time I found out about it (months after the motherboard fried itself), it was too late to get any satisfaction. I'm very leery of the more powerful laptops anyhow, simply because they generate so much heat.

I'm very well satisfied with my Asus eee netbook though, although the small keyboard takes a little getting used to.
