Keeping track of nasty weather

What is the best way to keep track of the weather during a trip outdoors? I know that some cell phones have a weather application but are there other devices that will work better?

Weather is really unpredictable but knowing some signs will help you determine whether to pursue your trip or not. One way is looking at the horizon for clouds building up as well as the wind direction. If the wind direction is going to the place where you want to go and there are heavy clouds on the horizon then you can expect that water will fall in that place sooner or later.

There is another way to determine if the weather is good or not. Observe the birds where they come from and it means that area will have rain sooner or later. In your current location, you will know if rain is coming when ants are climbing up to higher ground.
