Biking is a sport that’s greatly enhanced by the many bike trails that keep bicycles and cars safely separated. But at some point in almost every trail, there will at least a few places where the trail merges with a roadway. At best, the trail simply runs alongside the roadway for a while with no barrier between them but a white line. At worst, bikers must actually ride on the edge of the road for a brief spurt. And you’ll eventually have to cross a road on even some of the most exclusive trails.

Out of all the sports out there that anyone can do, biking is one of the best for losing weight, getting in shape, and getting healthy. You burn about 380 calories an hour even if you’re going at a very leisurely pace (subtract 50 if you’re on a stationary bike). It strengthens the leg muscles, of course, but also muscles all over your body that are required to help balance you and the bike. And it’s an aerobic exercise, good for your heart and lungs. How does it compare to other similar activities?

Biking has been popular since the turn of the century when it first came out. Originally, it was very popular with adults as a form of transportation, which was considered a novelty, but it eventually became something that children greatly enjoyed as time went on and they became more affordable. It was finally in the 1950’s that bicycles became so popular that it was advertised that all children should have a bike otherwise they would not be a true American boy or girl, which led many parents to buy the latest model for their child. Now in modern times, bicycles have become recognized not only as a form of enjoyment but also as a form of exercise, which allows an individual to get in shape if he or she bikes regularly.

If you are someone who likes to drive fast off the regular terrain or to be able to climb to locations, which would be difficult and strenuous on foot, you might want to consider an all terrain vehicle (ATV). ATVing can be a fun sport if you know what you are doing and are cautious. While it is not for everyone, you are able to do things, which would normally be very difficult on foot and impossible by bicycle or by car. One of the best things about an ATV is how you can take it almost everywhere and as long as you know what you are doing almost any member of your family after they are a certain age can use them which makes it great for camping or other outdoor activities.

Not everyone who heads out for an hour or two of biking takes a first-aid kit with them. In fact, most mountain bikers don’t take such a kit. But a first-aid kit can be a great thing to have with you in case of a fall. Even a fall that causes nothing but a scrape can be made a little better if you have something to put on the scrape to take the sting out. Anyone who heads into the woods or the country, but especially bikers and hikers, should consider packing a first-aid kit.
