Default Winning a tournament without a fishing license

I caught the tail end of a news article about a team of four guys who won a million dollars in a fishing tournament. As it worked out, they were disqualified because one of the guys didn't have a fishing license. Man, but his friends must love him. Why would someone even enter a contest if he knew he didn't have a license?

Because people don't always thing about these kind of things. Specially if it was an out of town entry, they may not have known.

Oh wow, that is a bummer. I imagine that was part of the rules though. Some people just don't think sometimes. I'm wondering what kind of fishing tournament it was with a million dollar prize. Sounds like a lot.

Ok so I was bored on a call for work so I Googled for more of the store. Here are two different sources

No fishing license means crew may forfeit almost $1M | The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram

Fish story lands in NC’s high court, $1M on line | www.WHEC.com

Sounds like they are trying to fight it in court

Hi...

I've taken tuna while on a charter boat...and had no knowledge whatsoever of the need for any license. We may or may not have been out beyond the three mile 'limit'.

However...if the 'rules' state that one is mandatory...that puts somewhat of a different perspective on the situation.

This is what happens when people skip mandatory meetings. The need for a license for every member of the fishing crew was emphasized during the meeting. Had they bothered to show up for that meeting they would have had enough time before going out to fix the situation.
