Default Casting From Under A Tree

I hate to fish under trees, but sometimes that's where the fish congregate. I have lost more artificial lures to trees than I have to fish. But, ya gotta go where the fish are, especially on a very sunny day.

You've got that right-
under trees, stumps, masses of lily pads, under sunken trees, docks, sometimes in water barley deep enough to hold them; any place that looks like a hidie-hole out of the sun and out of the notice.

I have spent many hours trying to prefect fishing around trees, logs and stumps. All those under water things that are bound to get us snagged up. While I am getting better at it, there are still times I get, "Tangled Up In Blue."

I was fishing with my grand kids last weekend and we had problems with trees. I had found a nice tree less spot. Then it dawns on my grandson that the fish might be near the tree. He kept getting his line stuck in the tree. I helped him get it out a couple of times but the rest of the time I made him deal with it.

I have my best success fishing from a brushy shore using short rods. A short rod and a machete are your friend here. On the plus side the machete can clear you a spot that nobody else has been fishing.

Given the number of lures that I've lost while trying to get under tees I tend to treat those spots as a weed bed - basically I rig a weedless lure and that helps keep me out of the tree.

Cast sideways , do the 1ft lead of line and just 'whip' it sideways, I can get an easy 30 feet of line out using a rooster tail and this method.

I have found some of my best fish under rocks or under trees. I have done a lot of fishing but I really haven't figured out how to fish in a tree. It seems they all want to stay in the water. LOL

I must have been 5 or 6. Brother and sister hogged all the room at the end of an old wood bridge across the creek. So I let my line down through a crack between the boards. Caught a big old trout. Brother had to get in the creek and crawl under there to get my fish off the line. Moral; fish like the shade and there's always a way to get them, lol.

Bow and arrow cast works well under trees for short distance casts. Here is a video, but make sure you don't get hooked like he did.
