Default Hybrid Bass

Anyone ever caught one of these before? A friend mentioned he wanted to take us out next summer to get some but I have never actually heard of this type of bass.

I've never heard of that kind of Bass. Was it something created by science in a lab or something? The only thing I've ever caught or seen caught are wide mouth Bass. I don't know if that is an actual name for them though.

The hybrid striped bass, sometimes called "Wipers" or "Whipers" are the result of a cross between a striped and white bass. The result is a fish that is larger than a white bass and more aggressive like the striped bass. As a result, they are fun to catch and good eating. They have to be stocked however as they are sterile.

Caught one this summer that totally surprised me as I had no idea they were in the lake. Those things can fight! I had the thing on for about 15 minutes on my ultra light rig, but never saw it until the last minute. My partner kept saying "Whatever you do don't lose this, I want to see what the heck it is".

We finally netted a 3 lb hybrid. Turns out that they stocked the lake with a few hundred yearling hybrids a few years but the one I caught is the only one I've ever heard about being caught there.

Dinosaur is correct, they are a cross between a striped and white bass.

Here is a pic of my catch
