Default Keep losing my bobbers and hooks

I went fishing yesterday with the kids and I can't tell you how many bobbers and hooks we had to cut out of the tree or that got tangled. Good thing I had a bunch of extra line and other items there. They were being so careless.

We didn't catch many fish but we sure had a lot of laughs!

Awww darn it! I hate it when you have to cut the line and start over. Usually the kids are so impatient and want me to put the line on in 2 minutes. I kept telling them stop losing it in the trees and you would not have to wait.

It is all part of teaching them to fish. We lose less and less each year. This year was our youngest first year fishing. She threw her whole cane pole in the water. Luckily we were able to get it back.

Quit casting into trees will help a little.
Hooks and bobbers get lost alot, don't seat it too much.
If you are worried about the plastic and enviroment then try real cork bobbers.

Practice casting in the yard. Make a game out of it with different size hoops for targets and points for getting in the hoop. Don't use hooks in the yard.

Why not? It's a great way to hook the neighbor's cat. And cat's put up a great fight.

Teaching kids to fish is one of my greatest joys. Start off with cane poles and cork fishing for pan fish. There is usually lots more bites that way specially in the spring and they don't get bored start off away from trees and once they used to swinging the line then move over. PATIENCE pays off. When they ready to graduate to casting buy 'em a good ole zebco. Most tackle stores sell practice plugs weighted rubber thingys to use instead of hooks Even though Dino is right and neighbor cats are fun to try to reel in, it aint gonna endear ya kids to the cat lady next door and dang sure aint gonna help trick or treating goodies and stuff in the future. Every once in a while we still get out a couple zebcos and cast in the yard we set up targets from houla hoops pizza boxrs frisbies to cerial bowls and practice for fun. Make it a game. Peggy do this in afternoons and have a yard full of kids wanting to try in no time.
