Default Master Angler?

What does it take to catch a perch worthy of a Master Angler award? My dad caught a rather large one and we are wondering if it is trophy worthy. He is sleeping in the freezer right now until we find out for sure.

I thought each state has their own Master Angler program. I am not familiar with a Nation wide one. If you are talking about the state one, which state?

It was about 15 or 16 inches long and really fat although I am not sure of the exact weight. Jason he caught it in Michigan.

Michigan's minimum length for white perch is 10" and yellow perch is 15".

Thanks for the info Jason! I will definitely be passing it on to my dad so he can remeasure that big ole fish and have it mounted finally!

Looking this over a second time makes me wonder about the term "master" angler. I believe this to be a misnomer. In the first place, it is more difficult to catch smaller fish than larger ones since their biting characteristics are more wary (not as aggresive) and you have to have just the right touch to bring them in consistently. Second, although catching larger fish is a matter of observation and knowing when and where the bigger fish will most likely be, bringing them in is mostly a matter of luck. I do have to agree in part because knowing the fish species and its' ingrained fighting technique (strategy when hooked) is a plus and requires some angling.
