Default Special type of line?

I would imagine that there might be special types of fishing line used for ice fishing because of the low temperatures involved. Is that a safe assumption?

There are.
Ice line for jigging & braided tip-up line for tip-ups. They're ment to stay more flexible in the cold water. That being noted, if you can't find any jigging line in the neighborhood, you can use the regular monofilament, too. It does tend to get "shaped" to the reel, but if you're dedicated enough, you can stretch it out between trips.
