Default I have a question

Can you shoot a slug through a smooth barreled shotgun with a modified choke? We looked it up online, but there seem to be mixed responses and I know some of you guys are very knowledgable when it comes to these things.

Once, but no promise it will come out at the right spot.
When in doubt, DON'T!!!

The old-style "punkin ball" slugs will swage down and go right through even a full choke with no problem. You're only talking a few thousandths of an inch after all. Those older slugs are just a cup of soft lead.

Accuracy may be pretty spotty- or not. I have a Marlin bolt-action 12 ga "goose gun" that shoot slugs very accurately.

You might have problems using some of the more modern style slugs in a choked barrel, but since I'm sure the manufacturers don't want to be sued to death if someone puts one of their slugs through a choked barrel, I suspect that it would be safe enough in a modern shotgun.

I'd be a bit leery of doing it in an older gun with possibly weaker barrels.

Rifled slugs will shoot reasonably accurate, even through a full choke barrel.

Thanks guys! Some of the WMA's we are trying to get on this year don't allow shot, you have to use slugs so we were curious. I'll send the hubby this way to read this and see what he wants to do now.

Never used slugs but my Southern states buddies all agree with the rest of the guys, safe even through a full choke.
