I've tried to set snares before, from improvised material and real snares as well. But I never got proficient in making that old style, with what you can find material in the wild, traps. How about you?
Hi...
It's been several years since I've been out on the trapline. Here in N.Y., snares are not legal. I do, however, carry three commercially made small game snares in my BOB, just in case.
Regarding making snares out of "materials in the wild", such natural material can..and probable would be...chewed through by any caught animal...thereby allowing its escape. This is something I have yet to see mentioned in any of the "survival"-type books. Even copper wire would probably suffer the same fate. The same would also go for snares made of shoe laces or paracord.
Deadfalls can and will work, though. I think that they can be easily pulled up on the 'net. Regarding deadfalls, I rarely see mentioned the fact that they should have a solid, flat rock for their base.
NOTE:
"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!! |
