Default Sitting on the back steps

Our nephew, who is 14, shot a deer this weekend while sitting right in his own back yard. He had it cut up and the meat stored before his father even got home. That's self-sufficiency, I'd say.

That's a young man I would be proud to call a son or grandson. Congrats to a father or someone who took the time to teach him to be that self sufficient. We could use a lot more like him.

How many skills do you need to have to do that, let's see: Handling a firearm, safely and accurately, using and maintaining a knife, dressing an animal that large and at the end be calm and trust yourself enough to make it all possible. What that kid will be doing in his forties I can only imagine.

Good story. Since he is a responsible person at a young age, consider taking the next step and processing the meat at home too.

WOW!! That's awesome! You should be proud of your brother or sister for teaching him well. I hope he continues to do as well as that the rest of his life. He is certainly ambitious.

That's my kind of kid. You have to be awfully proud of him. He will be able to put food on the table for any bride he wants when he gets older.

Didn't he process it at home? Said it was in the freezer before his dad got home. I am thinking he had to process it. My cousin (43) grew up the same way. His sons are the same now. They are tweens too.
